Russia Prepared to Help Argentina to Develop Energy Sector
Russian companies will take part in a number of tenders in the energy sector soon to be announced by the Argentine government, TASS reported citing a statement by Dmitry Feoktistov, Moscow’s ambassador in Buenos Aires. He stated the tenders involve supplying equipment to power plants among other projects on more favourable terms than other competitors.
Nuclear energy projects are also under discussion. A nuclear power plant of Russian design may be built in Argentina in the future. Its construction and launch will be carried out by the Rosatom state corporation, which has longstanding, successful experience in implementing similar projects in many countries around the world.
The trade turnover between Argentina and Russia grew by 15 percent in the first four months of the year (last year the total volume amounted to $900 million with a growth of one and a half percent). According to Dmitry Feoktistov, the potential for the development of bilateral cooperation is estimated at billions of dollars but joint efforts are needed to implement it. To recap, Argentina now uses more Russian gas transmission equipment and, in general, the oil and gas sector is one of the most promising areas for expanding partnership.
